Medicare

Medicare is health insurance for people 65 or older. You’re first eligible to sign up for Medicare 3 months before you turn 65.

You may be eligible to get Medicare earlier if you have a disability, End-Stage Renal Disease (ESRD), or ALS (also called Lou Gehrig’s disease).

Mobile County Health Department - Family Health, Primary Care

Since its inception in 1979, Family Health has provided services (adult health, pediatric health, women’s health, dental services) to the uninsured, underinsured, insured, and medically underserved populations of Mobile County. In addition to the general population, the center has also targeted special populations (such as migrant and seasonal workers, refugees, public housing residents, and people living with HIV/AIDS)

Mobile Housing Authority

In addition to providing public housing to those who qualify, there is a housing counseling program and help with financial planning. There is also a daycare and after-school care for children. Cost varies by ability to pay, but is discounted for people in public housing.

Services are free to low-income homeowners in Choctaw, Clarke,
Mobile, and Washington counties. Our client base is veterans, senior
